Play Time

Shhhh! Don’t tell anyone. I’ve been playing around with markers again. 🙂

Yes, I know I “should” be working. But all work and no play makes for a dull life, doesn’t it?

Here’s the latest result of my joy-filled, playful pastime.

A Star Is Born

I discovered this beauty a few days ago. At first I thought it was a morning glory flower because I noticed it first thing in the morning.

Last evening, however, I saw a second one, unfurling slowly. Within an hour, it was completely open, and remained so all night. This morning it is gently closing.

It’s called a moonflower because it blooms during the night (and probably also because it’s white). However, for me it’s really a star flower. The star design at the centre reminds me that I am a star at my core (as are you), and it’s important to let that star quality shine for everyone to see!

Perspective

When you look at the photo, what do you see?

A page that is empty?

Or a page that is FULL … of endless possibilities?

One hand, one pen, one imagination = endless possibilities!

Rekindling the Passion

This week, just for the fun of it, I started doodling again. Adding a little more detail every day.

No plan.

Just play.

Because it slows me down, opens up my mind, and sparks my creative thinking.

Sometimes when my thoughts become muddled, or my feet lose their way, relaxing into non-thinking is exactly what I need.

How do you keep your passion alive? What do you do to reignite the spark?

Leave a comment. I’d love to know!

Let There Be Light

Sometimes, as William Wordsworth said, “the world is too much with us.” Events in our own lives, and around the world, can weigh heavily on our hearts and minds.

At such times, I close my eyes and surrender…to the feelings of loss, of sadness and disbelief. And as I breathe in, I notice…the feel of the wind on my face, the touch of the sun on my shoulder, and the melodies of birds in the trees.

I recognize that in the midst of sorrow, there is also joy. It may seem more fleeting, hard to capture, and yet, like a butterfly, it hovers around me, at the periphery of my vision, just waiting to be noticed.

And so, I choose…to notice joy; to feel my own aliveness and wellbeing; to celebrate all that is good in the world. In so doing, I honour those in my world who are no longer able to do the same.

A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words

While I work on some new designs for my escherly shop, I thought I’d share a snapshot of some of my creations to date.

escherly...all this and so much more!!

It’s come a long way in just 6 months, hasn’t it?

I’m curious to see what the next six months will bring 🙂

What dreams are you working on these days? I’d love to hear.

Finding Inspiration

What inspires you? As an artist and designer, I find inspiration in the world around me – patterns, colours, shapes, textures. Often in nature.

Is this photo simply an image of decaying leaves and a tree on the forest floor? Or does it offer inspiration for a new design?

Beauty, and inspiration, are in the eye of the beholder 🙂

Fire and Ice

Over the last few days, we had a severe ice storm. Although such a storm brings destruction and power failures, it also brings unexpected beauty.

Here are a few moments of splendour captured looking through the windows at the back of my home.

Fire and ice

In the last photo, doesn’t it look like the branches are on fire? Or diamonds sparkling against the blue sky?  These branches are at the top of a 40′ tree, dancing in the fiery light of the sun. Pure magic!

Name This Design!

Just finished this design and I’m searching for a name. Any suggestions?

What would you name this piece? ~escherly 2016

Probably my most complex design so far. Lots of interesting “moments” swirling around in there. What’s your favourite section?
